No Hope for the Human Race (“No Hope,” “we,” “us”) is a privately run online community
operated by Bill Thompson in Fresno, California. This policy explains what information
we collect, why, and the rights you have — including your rights under California law
(the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA, and CalOPPA).
Information we collect
- Account information: username, email address, and password (stored hashed) when
you register. Membership is 18+ only.
- Content you post: posts, comments, photos and other material you choose to share,
plus your group memberships and activity on the site.
- Technical information: IP address, browser/device type, pages visited, and the
date/time of your visit, collected in server and security logs.
- Cookies: a small number of cookies keep you signed in, remember that you passed
the age gate, and remember display preferences. We do not use third-party advertising
cookies, and we run no third-party ad networks.
How we use it
To run the community: authenticate members, display content, prevent abuse and spam,
enforce the Community Rules, and keep the site secure. Emails we send are transactional
(account, password, membership and activity notices) unless you separately opt in to more.
What we never do
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not share your personal information with third parties for their marketing.
- We do not run third-party advertising networks on this site.
Service providers
We use a hosting provider and an email delivery service to operate the site and send
transactional email. They process information only to provide those services to us.
Your California privacy rights
California residents may: (1) know what personal information we hold about them;
(2) request deletion of their personal information; (3) request correction of
inaccurate information; and (4) not be discriminated against for exercising these rights.
Because we do not sell or share personal information, there is nothing to opt out of —
but we honor “Do Not Sell or Share” requests on the record if you send one.
To exercise a right, email admin@fuckingit.org from your account email address.
We will verify and respond as California law requires. You may also delete your own
account at any time from your profile settings.
Children
This site is for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from
anyone under 18, and accounts found to belong to minors are removed.
Data retention and security
We keep account information while your account is active and for a reasonable period
afterward for security and abuse prevention, then delete or de-identify it. We use
industry-standard protections (encrypted connections, hashed passwords, access
controls). No system is perfect; we will notify affected users of a data breach as
California law requires.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will post the updated version here and update the effective
date, and note significant changes on the site.
